The History

Woodland Crafts is a home-based business founded in 1998 by Julie Tebbutt and me, Liz Thompson. We developed Woodland Crafts as a way to support our at-home lives with our pre-school children.

Running the business has resulted in a never-ending search for the perfect balance between work and family. At first Julie and I both focused on the business, but as my family grew, I found I needed to spend more time with them. So, I took a supporting role in the business for nearly two years. Then came Country Living and I dove back in! Now it is Julie's family that is changing and she has stepped aside.

The website is now limited to the brown eggs only. Other colors will be available in limited quantities at craft shows as I am able to produce them.

Woodland Crafts is truly a labor of love. No mass production is involved - each egg is individually crafted by me (sometimes with "help" from the kids).

Woodland Eggs are hand crafted in the tranquil mountains of Maryland. I take the shells of hens' eggs and decorate them using a wholly natural process which captures the impression of a real leaf on each delicate eggshell.

The eggs are individually blown and washed, after which a real leaf is fixed to the outside of the shell. The eggs are then steeped for hours in natural dyes, and the leaves removed, leaving a unique and permanent impression on each shell.

Previously available only at select regional craft shows, Woodland Eggs are now available for purchase on the Worldwide Web.
